Forward-thinking for a better future
I am Noah Fruttarol, a computer Science student at the University of Victoria and a long-time resident of Saanich. I’ve lived in this community for almost my entire life, and like many of my neighbors, I know firsthand the challenges of the current housing and transportation landscape.
My journey hasn't been a straight line. I’ve experienced the realities of commuting from Sooke to UVic via public transit, the stress of hunting for housing with multiple roommates, and the financial pressure that many of us feel today. These experiences and my desire to be a force for good are driving my decision to run for Council. I am running because I believe that with forward-thinking, proactive planning, and data-driven solutions, we can make Saanich a place that works for everyone.
My career has been built on a foundation of hard work, adaptability, giving back, and a commitment to helping others succeed.
I am running because this election is a pivotal moment for Saanich, and I am committed to protecting the progress we’ve made toward a more livable, accessible community. I also feel like students and young people like myself are often not well represented in politics and with that our voices are lost. I will work to make sure everyone who calls Saanich home has a seat at the table, especially students and young professionals who can feel like the world has left us behind.
When it comes to affordability, the main area I can impact on council is housing. I want to support non-market housing incentives, increasing supply in urban areas, around UVic, and local transit hubs, and researching an unused land tax. Additionally, I want to pursue every reasonable measure I can to make life more affordable.
Commutability is one of the most important issues for me personally, having had very long commutes many times in my life. The main way I want to support this is by improving access to all types of transit. A car can be one of the most expensive ways to get around, so I want to make sure all options are accessible for those who need or choose to use them.
Saanich is the most diverse and beautiful district to live in the CRD, and I want to preserve the character of this amazing place while working towards a better future. I support forward-thinking planning to create walkable neighbourhoods while improving access to green and community spaces (such as parks and recreation centers). Small businesses are an integral part of the communities they serve. I will work to support new businesses and create expedited build approvals for small projects and local businesses.
I would like to affirm my commitment to you and all those who live in Saanich. I am committed to reconciliation, as well as supporting all marginalized groups. I believe in climate action and a focus on green development for our urban areas. I truly believe in democracy, but it only works when your elected officials feel responsible to their constituents. If elected, I promise to be both approachable and not just stand by my decisions, but justify them so you understand my reasoning.
